Get Your Zendesk Help Desk Staff with oDesk
oDesk, the global service marketplace for small and medium sized business to hire, manage, and pay remote freelancers or teams, has created a Zendesk Group which lets our customers leverage oDesk's extensive listings when they're looking to hire help desk staff. So far, about 50 people have applied to the group and about half have been approved.
In addition to creating a group to find qualified Zendeskians, oDesk has also selected Zendesk as their help desk partner after sourcing 15 other companies to manage their growing case load of more than 10,000 tickets a month. They will be launching a new Zendesk Customer Support portal in early 2010.
Each month, thousands of companies of all sizes post jobs on oDesk, representing jobs worth more than $65,000,000. Talk about growing in leaps and bounds! We look forward to growing our service and offerings along with oDesk in the coming years.

In looking at oDesk it seems that the market place is unrealistic and it is designed for outsourcing overseas. A brief overview of jobs shows that the going price for support projects is less than $7.00/hr. How is a US based staff of freelancers able to compete?

Tried to join...denied! Guess you have to charge under $10 to get in.

John,
I rejected your application because your oDesk profile is blank and that you are not "oDesk ready". In order to be accepted, you must pass the oDesk Readiness Test, have billed some hours, have an above average feedback score and list experience relevant to help desk or customer support.
Cheers,
Thomas

Jacob,
We understand the concern about the seemingly low rates on oDesk. Keep in mind that oDesk is a global marketplace where you set your own rate and negotiate with buyers. Because the marketplace is global there will be low cost labor from some countries, but there is a quality component in determining rates. In order to make higher rates you need to offer differentiated services, for example exceptional communication skills, same timezone etc.
There are some statistics on rates available at:

The average rate for U.S. freelancers is certainly higher than the average and U.S. freelances in all fields are finding buyers who value them for the unique skills and connection to American culture.
